I know it's like a month late but I thought I'd write about Valentine's Day. :) Last year for Valentine's Day, we went to Olive Garden for an early dinner to beat the rush, and Ben got me flowers and chocolates and I got him a big jar filled with red Starburst jelly beans (which he probably ate within the day. He loves those. The other day I got Ben some Starburst jelly beans because they were on sale for Easter, and those jelly beans were got so fast. And then the next day we were over at his mom's and she had some, so he ate all of hers too). Anyway, it was a pretty great Valentine's Day last year except for the fact that I had a massive paper due THAT NIGHT for one of my classes. Who assigns a paper that's due on Valentine's Day?! So after dinner, I spent the rest of the day working on my paper and that was just awful. So I was determined that this Valentine's Day would be different. :) And it was, but for other reasons. Since the first day of school back from Thanksgiving Break, I had been doing a long-term sub job at the high school. I loved it so much for at least the first month and I never wanted to leave, and then it got really really hard for a bit, and then I loved it again but I knew I would be a little happy when it was over, even just for the extra time I needed for my online classes. And my last day ended up falling right on Valentine's Day. So not only was February 14, 2018 one of my favorite holidays (I love flowers and chocolate and pink and red and fancy dinners and jewelry), but it was also the culmination of this massive experience. So to celebrate, I covered the classroom in red and pink streamers and hearts, and I had parties in all my classes. I had them all pick a movie to watch and I handed out Valentines and we had a big pizza party during lunch. It was so fun. I was really sad to say goodbye to some of my favorite kids, and others I wasn't so sad to say bye to. ;) It was this huge, awesome, hard, rewarding, exhausting achievement, and I'm proud of myself for doing it. So after I put all the grades in and cleaned up the classroom (Ben helped me a ton and I'm so grateful), we went home and got ready for dinner! We forgot to take pictures, but Ben wore a nice sweater and I wore a little burgundy dress, and we went to Olive Garden again so I guess it's kind of a tradition now. :) Ben got me red roses and a beautiful necklace and earrings. And I don't have a picture of the necklace because as soon as I opened it, I put it on and I haven't taken it off since. But I'll take a picture soon. :)
I got Ben some treats and a bunch of t-shirts (he specifically told me these t-shirts were what he wanted) and some other new clothes because he won't ever get them for himself. :) It was a really wonderful day!

This is what Ben requested for breakfast yesterday... Four waffles, five pieces of bacon, and enough hashbrowns to go on each waffle. I'm nice so I made it. :)
Last night we went on a date, because every other day this week will be occupied by work and homework.
We went and saw The Greatest Showman again (it was just as good the second time) and then we went to Kneaders for dinner. I've heard all about Kneaders but I had never been before last night, and we both loved it! It reminded me of Disneyland. :) Today was jam packed. We woke up, went to the gym, then went to the mall and paid off our wedding rings (yay!!!!!!!), then got jamba juice, then went home and got ready, then went to the temple and did baptisms and confirmations, then went home and ate, then went to the library and did homework, then went home and did homework, then went and saw Black Panther which we just got out of! :) It was an awesome day :)
My long-term sub job is coming to an end. Valentine's Day is my last day! It's a little bittersweet, but I'm definitely looking forward to having more time for my online classes.
I wanted to make something special for all the aides, teachers, and administration that have helped me, so I thought I'd try making some Almond Roca. I made a test batch tonight and oh my gosh it is so good. I honestly think I could eat the whole pan. ;) Ben is in the other room doing a video call for one of his classes, so I'm going to get in bed and take a nap until he's done (and hopefully I'll dream that I'm eating more almond roca). ;) Goodnight! - My longterm sub job ends in less than a week. I'm kinda happy and also kinda sad about it.
- Last weekend we went down to Utah for Joe's birthday, and we had fun playing games and having good food! - While we were in Utah, I was having severe stomach pain. We ended up going to Urgent Care and we found out I have a stomach ulcer. I got some medicine for it that I have to take for like a month, but so far it's working because my stomach doesn't hurt anymore. - I've been going to the gym every day after school this week and it feels great! - I made a Shepherd's Pie last night for dinner and it was delicious. - While we were in Utah, Ben surprised me with a Sodalicious sugar cookie. I love him :):):):) He knows how to make me feel better. Ben had Saturday and Sunday off this week, which is pretty rare, and it was so nice. We relaxed, watched movies, went to the gym, did homework (bleh), went to church together, and had game nights at his mom's house. It's been a wonderful weekend. I wish it was a little longer!
And Happy Birthday, Dad!! I hope you had a wonderful day, and that you have a great time on your cruise this week. Love you. Work has been really hard this week. I'm teaching a high school math resource class that has a lot of students with behavioral problems in it, and it's pretty exhausting. Sometimes some of the students can be pretty mean when they're upset, and after it happening again and again I just feel like I've been beaten up. I get way too emotionally involved in trying to help them and be nice to them, so when they fire back at me in a mean way it's especially hurtful. A lot of that went on this week, and so I'm just extremely tired physically and emotionally.
Halfway through the day I texted Ben saying "I want to watch a movie. I want to forget about school. And I want to eat something really good." Hahaha ;) So he secretly got off early from work, went to the store to get cookie dough and a "I love my teacher" box of chocolates, and went home and cleaned up the house and got a movie ready. So when he picked me up from work and brought me home, I walked inside to see a clean house, and he gave me the chocolates, put some cookies in the oven, and turned on a movie. It was exactly what I needed to foget about the week. Ben is the best. He always takes care of me, and knows how to make me feel better. I'm lucky to have him. :) Ben took me on a really fun date last week to see The Greatest Showman. He picked me up right after school got out and we went straight over to the movies, which was so nice because it had been a stressful day and I needed a break.
And we loved the movie! We've been listening to the songs ever since. :) After the movie we went to Rumbi's, which is a Hawaiian-themed restaurant we had never been to before. We were in the mood to try something new. And it was delicious! Ben got a burger which made it into his top 10 burger list, and I got a chicken sandwhich that would have made it into my top 10 chicken sandwhiches list if I had a top 10 chicken sandwhiches list. Maybe I should start one. :) It was one of the best dates we've had in a while. :) Thanks for taking me, babe. :) I'm back! It's been a long time since I last posted, and I've gotten back to forgetting our day to day lives (I started this blog to remember the day to day), so I need to get back in my routine of posting every day.
Here are some updates: - I'm working full time at IFHS, subbing for my favorite teacher's maternity leave. And it has made me want to be a high school teacher for a career! - Ben and I are both taking classes this semester. I'm hoping to graduate by December - Our New Years Resolution is HEALTH (emotional health, physical health, spiritual health, etc) - We had a great Christmas and New Years, but more on that later. :) |
