Great day :)

Our Fourth of July this year was a good one. Since it feels like we're always so busy out here and Ben is hardly ever home, we decided to relax and have a good day at home. So we got together with another couple, and had a little party at the pool. We had copycat Cafe Rio sweet pork burritos and house dressing, watermelon, brownies, chips, and soda. The boys swam in the pool and I read my book while Jess tanned. The weather was perfect and it was pure happiness. Then the guys wanted to play video games so we went over to Jess and Dallin's (just down the road from us) and Jess and I played cards while they played video games. Then we realized that it was Tuesday, which is the discount day at the movie theater here, so we decided to go see Wonder Woman! We brought our brownies and stopped at the gas station for some other snacks, and on the way to theater there were fireworks going off all around us. There were even some right across the street from the theater as we were walking in. We got to sit in those nice leather reclining seats, and I had brought a blanket from home because I always freeze in movie theaters, so it really felt like a great home theater (but with a GIANT screen). The movie was great, and after that we went home and went to bed! Then in the morning, Ben told me he didn't have to go in for work until 2:30! So we slept in and had a wonderful morning together as well. (my phone is old and the camera is all but dead so this is the best I've got haha)
I was going through the photos on my phone, looking for a good one of my mom to put up here for this birthday post, and I just couldn't choose because there's no way to capture who she is in just one photo. For example: There was one where she was holding up a quilt she had made for a grandchild for Christmas (she made a quilt for every grandchild that year). There was one of us together after completing a 5K in Provo on the Fourth of July. There was one of her on Christmas Day, sitting on the couch unwrapping a gift (Little Women special edition book from Joe). There was one of her laughing at the head of a table covered in pies on Thanksgiving. There was one of her with the Empire State Building in the background, on our family trip to New York and cruise along New England. There were a LOT of her holding grandchildren. There was one of her on her 59th birthday, when her glasses fell on the cake when she blew the candles out. (haha!) There was one of her freezing in the car on a cold night when we went to pick out a Christmas tree. There was a picture of her and our family cat, Smokey. There was a picture of her frantically texting someone (probably during her Relief Society Pres days). There was a picture of her with the missionaries (who she had over for dinner at least once a month). There was a picture of her dancing with my brother at his wedding to "There Were Bells On The Hill". There was a picture of the cookies she made and brought to the airport for me when she and my dad picked me up for Christmas break. There was a picture of her taking a nap on the couch in front of the Christmas Tree (a favorite hobby we have in common). There was a picture of her with a gingerbread house (a tradition she carries on every year). There was a picture of her and my dad dropping me off in Rexburg for school. There was a picture of her trying on her Mother of the Bride dress for my wedding. There was a picture of her and my dad when they visited Ben and me at our house in Idaho Falls. I guess my point is that she is a wonderful woman, who lives a wonderful life. And I love her so much.
Happy Birthday, Mom! You are my hero, my biggest role model, my best friend, and I can only aspire to one day be as good at making rolls as you! ;) Happy Fourth of July! This is a song that my mom used to always teach to her 3rd grade elementary school class for the Patriotic Program she would do every year. Each kid would have a prop for something mentioned in the song, like a baseball or a box of cornflakes. (Yes, she is the best elementary school teacher ever!) (Tied with my dad of course!) ;) This morning, she sent me and my siblings and other family members a link to this video so we could listen to the song. My favorite part is: "What's more American than praying in a church of your choice across the land?" I am so grateful for our freedoms, and especially our religious freedom. We just got home from seeing Wonder Woman (if you haven't seen it yet - GO!) and it was so good! It had a lot of beautiful religious symbolism in it, which made it the perfect end to a wonderful Fourth of July! Again, I am so thankful for religious freedom and those that made it happen. Happy Independence Day! R In the middle of all our grocery shopping/prep for the Fourth, a couple of the other wives and I went and got ice cream cones rolled in sprinkles. I've never really liked sprinkles before, but now I am a sprinkles advocate! If you're having a bad or stressful day, I suggest going and getting a cone rolled in sprinkles. :) It makes everything better. :)
We got married 10 months ago today! And it's been a wonderful 10 months. I love you, Ben! Thank you for working so hard, and for being such a good listener, and for trying so hard, and thank you, especially, for making me cinnamon roll toast (he's making it right this very second.) Love you. :) R Last night Ben and I went to the filming of The Tonight Show!!!
I didn't want to say anything ahead of time in case we didn't get in (they overbook tickets so there was a chance we wouldn't), but we DID get in, and we got FRONT ROW SEATS!!!!!!! I'm still wondering how in the world that happened! It's been a dream of mine to go see Jimmy Fallon and The Tonight Show for years! So it was so surreal that we actually managed to get tickets and we actually got to go. We're going to watch the episode later tonight, and we'll see if we're visible in any of the shots. ;) And after that I'll write about the whole experience! :) R |
