This past week has been so busy, in the best way. We flew home last Tuesday, and it felt so good. Joe and Renae picked us up from the SLC airport, and as soon as we were out there driving through Salt Lake, it just felt SO GOOD! I can't really describe it. It felt like home. I love the West.
We spent the night at their place, and in the morning we went to City Creek to get a birthday present for Mercedes. Then we met Renae for lunch, and she showed us around where she works!
After that, we drove down to Ben and Crystal's, and it was so good to see them. All the kids looked so much older. It seems like they've gotten even more cute and fun every time we see them. :)
On Thursday we drove home (stopped to get a Swig sugar cookie and also at IKEA on the way), and the drive was wonderful! Back when we were in New York I told Ben that he wouldn't believe it but I was actually looking forward to that drive again ;) , and it really was wonderful!
However, right before we got to Pocatello, our tire blew out. And it turned out that our spare was no good either, so we called a tow truck and got the tire changed at a great little family tire business in Inkom. We made it the rest of the way home, and walking in the house was amazing. It was so beautiful and familiar and I loved it so much all over again. We unpacked the car and then we went over to Lowe's so Ben could see all his old work buddies and see if he could get his schedule worked out, and then we went to Walmart and got some dinner. It was a good day.
Then Friday and Saturday were spent grocery shopping and running errands and getting the house in order (we had lots of family coming for the eclipse), and on Saturday night (or early Sunday morning), Ben's family got to our house. We set up beds and went to sleep, and when we woke up it was time to get ready for church!
So on Sunday we went to church, then came home and had some lunch and turned on Harry Potter. The kids colored and both Bens took a nap haha, while Crystal and I cooked and talked in the kitchen. Later, we went on a walk down along the river and all the way to the bridge on Broadway to see the nice view of the temple. And as we were walking back to our house, Joe and Renae drove right by us down our street. Perfect timing. :)
So we had some dinner and hung out and watched Harry Potter. It was so fun to be together with everyone. When it was getting late, we set up all the beds again (Joe slept on a cot in the kitchen haha), and we went to bed, excited for the big eclipse the next day!
So on Monday, we all woke up pretty early in anticipation for the big eclipse. We had no idea what the traffic would be like, so we wanted to get an early start. We had breakfast burritos and orange rolls for breakfast, and then we all got ready. Somehow even with only one bathroom we managed to leave only 20 minutes after we had planned. ;)
We ended up going to a church building around Thornton/Rexburg to watch the eclipse. There was a big ball field at the church that was perfect because the kids could run around safely and with plenty of room. We laid out a bunch of blankets and got our snacks out (Moonpies and Capri-Suns haha), and Crystal passed out the special eclipse glasses she had gotten for everyone.
With those glasses, we were able to look directly at the sun (without damaging our eyes) to see the moon moving over it. It was so interesting to see all the effects, like how it was slowly getting darker and colder, and the cool shadows the sun was making. And finally, the moment we were waiting for arrived, and we got to take our glasses off to see the eclipse in totality. It was INCREDIBLE! It was so beautiful! It was so much cooler than I had even imagined! Then the time came where totality ended and we had to put our glasses back on, and it got lighter and warmer again. We packed up all our stuff and went back to our house to have some lunch and watch some more Harry Potter. :)
Ben and Crystal's family left that night to get home in time for the girls' first day of school (it took them 7 1/2 hours to get home - it's usually a 3 1/2 hour drive). And Joe and Renae stayed over another night so we could go to the Idaho Falls temple today.
It was wonderful to go to the temple together, and Ben and I were so proud to show them our beloved Idaho Falls temple. :) (Oh and one of the murals in the temple had a solar eclipse painted!) After that, Renae made grilled cheeses for us all for lunch, and we ate them while watching..... you guessed it, Harry Potter. :)
Then Joe and Renae left for Utah, and we left too about an hour later because we are sending off Ben's sister tomorrow on her mission to Arkensaw! She reports to the MTC tomorrow afternoon. :)
It's been SUCH a good week.
It's so good to be home.
Ben and I went for a walk this evening through our neighborhood, and afterwards we laid out our big beach towel in our backyard area and looked at the stars. We even saw a few shooting stars. :)
We talked about how fun it would be to go camping once we're back in Idaho, and how it's hard to believe we've been married for almost an entire year. It still doesn't feel real sometimes.
It was dreamy :)
I love Ben :)
Yesterday, I spent the day with some friends in Southampton. It was a lot of fun! Tessa and I walked around looking at the shops while the rest of the group went to the beach. And we went to a bakery where we got some different desserts. This is a photo of me and the delicious fruit tart I had. :)
It was such a fun day! And now I want to make some fruit tarts!
The reason I haven't been writing very much recently is that it's pretty much the same story every day now:
Same old, same old. :)
Honestly, we're soooooooooooooooooo looking forward to going home and spending time with family, and getting our car again, and sleeping in our own bed! AH! I can't talk about it too much or it makes me sad that there are still 5 days. ;)
We fly home in 9 days!!! I can't wait to get back to family in Utah and our house in Idaho Falls.
Today was nice. Nursery was very relaxed because we only had one kid, and she ended up falling asleep!
And I'm reeeeeeally looking forward to tomorrow because Ben has the day off! That means we get to sleep in.
I have a crazy sweet tooth, and after every meal I NEED something sweet. It's really awful actually, and I should probably try to break the habit. But our pantry is actually pretty sparse on the sweets right now so maybe I will break it. Right now I'm craving a donut with chocolate frosting and sprinkles. ;)
We have a new baby girl in the family and she is an angel! I can't wait to meet her.
And that's all the updates for now. :)
WE GOT INTO BYU-HAWAII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are so. happy.
Ben was at work when I found out I got in, so I called him right away and he checked his admission status then and there and saw that he got in too!!! We were both just laughing and I couldn't stop smiling and it was all so surreal. :)
So I went to the Dollar Store and bought some Hawaiian-themed decorations to put all over the apartment. So now we are constantly reminded hahaha.
Our semester starts in January, so we will finish out the year in our beautiful little house in Idaho Falls, and then just as the Winter is getting bad, we'll take off for paradise. ;) (Winter is actually my favorite time of year in Hawaii because it's not as hot, but still warm and beautiful.)
So now we're trying to figure out the logistics like where we're going to live, and what we'll do with all our stuff, and exactly how many swimsuits we'll need ;)
Ben went surfing yesterday after work, while I stayed home and finished up some of my work on the computer. When he came home, he surprised me with someone's car (that he borrowed - can't wait to have our own car again haha), so we could go out on a quick date to get some cinnamon pretzels at Sam's Club (I was craving them all day).
When we got to The Club, as I like to call it, they didn't have any cinnamon pretzels ready because they were getting ready to close, but they were nice enough to make us some special. :)
Then we came home and snuggled in bed while we watched Clue the movie. It was a great night. :)
Okay Ben and I are going crazy over here waiting to see if we got into BYU-Hawaii!!! We are supposed to hear back within four weeks of the application deadline, which was July 1st, which makes four weeks later July 29th. So we should know in two days or less. We're freaking out. We really want to go.
In the meantime, I've been going through the pictures on my phone and creating a photo book of when I lived in Hawaii! It's been fun to see all the pictures again, although it is certainly not taking my mind off of our application statuses. ;)
I'm sitting in bed next to my sweet, sleeping, snoring husband, and thinking about the next few months. We're coming to the end of our time in New York, and we both are really missing Idaho! It was our home for the first eight months of marriage, and now we want to go home to it. I'll be so happy to be there for the last bit of Summer and for Fall.
We're waiting to hear back about if we got into BYU-Hawaii (fingers crossed), and if we do, we'll start there in January. So I'm looking forward to August, September, October, November, and December in Idaho Falls. I really love Idaho Falls. I love the temple down the street, and the giant trees in our neighborhood that turn red and orange and yellow in September, and I love our house, and everything we've done to it to make it ours, and I love our furniture, and I love the smell of the air there. IF will always have a special place in our hearts. :)
I'm thinking about how this Christmas, it will be a whole year since last Christmas, and last Christmas seems like just a bit ago. And we're almost to our 11 month anniversary! Which means we've almost been married for a year! A year goes by fast. And we still like each other. ;) I'd say we like each other even more.
