Days like today are the reason I started this blog. I wanted to have a way to look back on and remember all the fun, spontaneous times we have. Like earlier this evening. We were sitting inside, with the windows open because the weather has been so beautiful today. I really wanted to go do something outside in the perfect weather, and I also really wanted some ice cream. SO, we decided to go on a jog/bike ride to Walmart to get it! (A jog neutralizes the ice cream, right?) I jogged while B rode his bike alongside me, and it was wonderful. We took the bike path along the river, and it was so fun to see so many people out enjoying the weather like we were. Once we got to Walmart, we locked up B's bike and got our ice cream (Ben and Jerry's Cookie Dough), and on our way to the check out we picked up some corn dogs for dinner. On the way back home we had the most beautiful view of the Idaho Falls Temple, and when we crossed the bridge on Broadway, we got to jog/ride through a bunch of mist from the river. It felt so good. When we got home, we grabbed the mustard and the honey (delicious on corn dogs!!) and ate our corn dogs outside on our front porch as the sun went down. It was heaven. Whenever I eat a corn dog, I think of the scene in Princess Diaries where Julie Andrews eats the corn dog and says "It's delicious!".
Happy Saturday, R I distinctly remember thinking to myself two years ago, "I wonder where I'll be when Beauty and the Beast comes out." 2017 seemed so far away!
Well Beauty and the Beast came out tonight, and it's crazy to think how different things are now - since then I have lived in France, lived in Jerusalem, gotten engaged, and gotten married. If I told myself two years ago that all that would happen, myself two years ago would have to take a nap. Beauty and the Beast has always been my favorite Disney movie, and after Disney's remake of Cinderalla (a masterpiece, in my opinion) I was even more excited. And I am pleased to say that Beauty and the Beast was wonderful. I absolutely loved it. The music was gorgeous. (The old and the new.) It was visually stunning. (Like dessert for your brain.) And although I wasn’t too sure about Emma Watson as Belle at first (she will always be Hermione to me), by the end of the movie I had come around. She made me believe that she could be Hermione and Belle. And I, for one, loved that they kept it very similar to Disney’s original version. There are some that are critical of this, but I think it’s what most people were hoping for, and it was a pleasant surprise for me. It’s like they took what was already a great movie and amped it up x1000. Add in all the dancing and costumes and scenery and I think it was every bit as good as my beloved Cinderella. A masterpiece, if you will. R
Just kidding. He hates all these things. :) But he loves me anyway, and has endless patience for me, and I love him all the more for it. Love you, Ben. R P.S. Don't my socks look cute? ;) Today I'm remembering last Spring.
B and I were going to BYU-Idaho at the time (still are I guess, but now we just take online classes). We weren't engaged yet, but SPOILER ALERT we would be soon ;) We spent a LOT of time together that semester. Some of my favorite times were when we'd drive over to the nearby park and lay on a blanket in the sun, eating popsicles. Sometimes we'd read books, sometimes we'd take a nap, and one time we even did some slack-line walking with one of B's friends. It was so much fun, and so relaxing. I'm just waiting for the grass to get a little softer and greener here, and then we'll go get some popsicles and find a new park to relax in. Sweet dreams (of sunshine and popsicles), R Great things about today:
Much love and happy Pi Day from my pie-filled stomach to yours (if you are a fun person who celebrates Pi Day), R We loved Moana so much that we splurged and bought it! While we were watching it this afternoon, I realized that the movie's theme is knowing who you are.
The whole movie is about Moana figuring out who she is, as she helps Maui figure out who he is, and culminates in reminding Tifiti who she is. Meanwhile the grandma is also teaching lessons of knowing who you are and being true to yourself. I love this theme. At the climax of the movie, Moana sings: Who am I? I am a girl who loves my island I'm the girl who loves the sea It calls me I am the daughter of the village chief We are descended from voyagers Who found their way across the world They call me I've delivered us to where we are I have journeyed farther I am everything I've learned and more Still it calls me... I am Moana! And it left me thinking, who am I? I am a child of God. Growing up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I have always had it instilled in me that I am a beloved child of Heavenly Father. I sang songs about it as a child, and as an adult I still know it to be true. I am a wife. I am so thankful to be in a happy marriage with my wonderful husband. He takes such good care of me, and I love taking care of him. He makes me better, and I love him more every day. I am a daughter and a sister. I was blessed with wonderful parents and siblings who have helped shape me into who I am. I am proud to be made up of half my mom and half my dad, and to share their traits. I am proud to be a little sister to my four older brothers, who I will always look up to. I am descended from pioneers. My mother's ancestors were some of the Mormon Pioneers who crossed the plains to settle in Utah, and my grandma on my dad's side was a pioneer herself, in that she was the first of her family to join the Mormon Church. I come from a line of faith, and I hope to make my ancestors proud. I am a teacher. For my job, I help teach high school students math. I mostly teach one-on-one, which is my favorite. I love teaching, I love getting to know the kids individually, and I love when I can see a concept click for them. I am a homemaker. I love creating a home. I love making my home a comfortable, beautiful refuge from the outside world. I love to cook dinner, I love to tidy up the house, and sometimes I don't mind doing the dishes. ;) And most of all, I am a believer. I believe that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer, and that through Him I can become everything I want to be and more. Who are you? It has been so fun having B's mom here! 1. It is so fun to play games with her. She loves games (so do we) and she brought a bunch with her. We've been playing Pounce and Qwirkle. She also brought her TV (we don't have one yet), so I've finally been able to play all my GameCube games. Super Mario Sunshine anyone? 2. It has been so much fun to cook for more than just the two of us. I have really loved cooking recently, and for some reason it's a lot more fun to cook for new/more people. Last night we had Tilapia, sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts with pine nuts, and this salad (aka the best salad in the world). And tonight we had - you guessed it - a homemade pizza. (With a salad. Still trying to get those fruits and veggies in.) Not to ruin your diet or anything, but.... YUM. Pepperoni, bacon, and jalapenos on a homemade garlic parmesan crust. It tasted better than Domino's. Or Pizza Hut. Or whatever your favorite takeout pizza is - it tasted better than it. ;) Not Pictured: The banana bread I made and burnt, and my whole wheat bread that didn't raise right and turned out like crap. BUT I'm getting good at pizza so what else matters, right? Happy Saturday, R It's funny how much home improvement you can get done when you're about to have company ;)
B's mom is here visiting for the weekend, and before she got here, we.....
And I am NOT complaining! I love having family over, I love when our house looks its best, and I especially loved having a reason to expedite all these things we kept saying we'd get to on the weekends. Spoiler Alert: you never get to it on the weekends. I should take pictures of the house right now while it's spotless, so when we look back we'll think it always looked this way. ;) Happy Spring Cleaning! R "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes When I was around 15 or 16, this was my favorite song. It wasn't really a popular song at the time; I had come across it while listening to Pandora, and none of my friends were listening to music like it, so I just enjoyed it on my own.
Then one day, when B was giving me a ride home from a church activity or something, this song came on the radio and he turned it up. "You like this song?!" I asked. He did. Of course he did. Pretty sure it was a sign. ;) So we turned it up even more and sang it out loud until he dropped me off. After that, it kind of became our song. It wasn't "official" or anything, it just reminded us of each other, and we played it when we were together. Then when B left for his mission to England, I taught myself how to play it on the piano. I wanted to get it down perfectly so I could play it for him once he got home. I'm sure my mom still remembers me playing it over and over again, trying to get it perfect. (Thanks for your patience, Mom. It must have been so annoying.) After what must have been hours of practice, I eventually got it down to where I didn't make any mistakes, and it sounded pretty darn good. Then one day when B was home and we were dating, I casually played it for him like it was no big deal. It was a big deal. I love you, Ben. R |
