Can you smell them? Happy Weekend, R

We had B's cousin over this evening, which was a lot of fun! She's going to school in Rexburg, so we get to see her there pretty frequently, but she hadn't been over to our house until today.
Needless to say, we cleaned up a lot ;) It must sound like we're usually way messy, but we're not! It's just that I like the house to be spotless when people come over. Probably because we live in an old home, so I like it to look as nice as possible. Before she got here, I had to run over to Walmart to get some more butter. While I was there, I saw the most gorgeous tulips, and they were super fresh, so I just had to get some. The pink ones were the ones that caught my eye, but then I decided on the purple. Then as I was walking to the checkout, I decided I wanted the pink after all, so I walked back and got those. Then as I walked to the checkout for the second time, I realized they were dripping water all over me because I had forgotten to put them in one of those little plastic bags. So then I walked back and put them in a bag. This all happened within 20 seconds, and I'm sure I looked like a total maniac, walking back and forth like that. When B's cousin got here, we hung out and played Qwirkle. While we were playing, it suddenly started thundering and hailing out of nowhere! Then in 20 minutes it was finished, like it never happened. Ah, I love Spring. After that, we made crepes for dinner and ate them with lots of fresh strawberries. Again, I love Spring. And I'm glad I went with the pink tulips. Although I'm sure B decided that next time he'd be the one to run to the store, since I can't even go for something as simple as butter without coming back with some flowers. What can I say? I just love Spring. R We live in a pretty old house, so the closets are pretty small. We share a closet that's probably 2 ft by 4 ft. The other day, B was joking that I am slowly inching my clothes further and further onto his side, leaving him less and less space.
He's right. ;) Today was wonderful. What started as running some errands turned into an impromptu date! We started at the mall, where we mostly looked at shoes (we're thinking of splurging on some new running shoes!) And while we were there, B got a text from Pizza Pie Cafe with a coupon, so we decided to go there for dinner. They have their mint brownie pizza right now for March and it is delicious. On our way out, one of the employees asked B if the mint brownie was good, and we thought this was kind of random, until we realized that he had probably seen B grab a plate of no less than 5 pieces of the mint brownie pizza. After that, we decided to drive around because we hadn't ever been that far on the other side of town before. We ended up driving up into the hills on the outskirts of Ammon, and when we got to the top we had the most beautiful view of Idaho Falls. We spotted the temple way across town which was neat because our house is just a couple blocks away from it, so it was almost like we could see our house. I said "Hi, house!" and then I made B say hi to the house too. He's a good sport ;) Then as we drove back home, with the windows down, we decided to stop at D.I. and do a little thrifting. I found a gorgeous huge basket, a cake dome, some brown packaging paper (I like to wrap presents with it), and some ribbon. B found a wooden baseball bat and a miter guide, whatever that is. :) It was lots of fun, and we agreed that it was our best haul yet. It was a great date. Oh and we never got our errands done. :) R Busy day today! Lots of homework. Lots of dishes (still sitting on the counter haha!). Lots of half-finished exercises by me when I was "working out"! It always seems like 2 sets as opposed to 4 is good enough. ;)
B and I like to have a show. Something we both enjoy, that we can spend time together watching. Something that we only watch together - this is a strict rule! Sometimes we'll have a couple shows at a time, so we can switch off when we get sick of one. But I don't think we've ever been without a show. Does this sound ridiculous? Maybe it is, but it's how we relax. And to be honest, I love some great TV. Some of our shows have been (in order): The Office Merlin Parks and Recreation Stranger Things The Crown Longmire Raising Hope And now it's The Wonder Years (one of my classic favorites). I watched The Wonder Years all the way through about four years ago (when I was young enough to have a crush on season 6 Kevin), and it impacted me so much that one time I wrote a paper on it. Have I mentioned how much I hate writing papers? Yeah, it's a good show. R Today is a day like any other. B is at work, and I'm at home doing homework and laundry with Gilmore Girls in the background.
On his break, B messaged me and said, out of nowhere, "Are you happy? I'm happy. I want you to be happy." And at that moment, even though I was working on a HUGE essay (probably my least favorite thing in the world to do, no I am not kidding), I was completely happy. Content. At peace. And it really got me thinking. I am happy. We have a beautiful home that I daily put my heart into, we've got all the essentials plus a bit more, we have wonderful family, we have jobs and a sense of security, and on top of it all, we have each other and we enjoy spending time together. So even though the house is a little bit of a mess, and I've still got like 10 pages of my essay to write, and I know the Rory/Dean breakup is coming soon and that sucks, yeah I am happy. And I am very thankful. And I know this is such a cheesy post but I really want to remember how I'm feeling today. :) (And I would also like to point out that the title of this post is a little ironic because it's pretty much the same as yesterday's title but it now has a completely different meaning. Ha!) R Today was a good day.
1. B had to work this morning, so I went to church alone. I sure missed him! What stuck with me most from church is how we should pray fervently for charity. Moroni chapter 7, in the Book of Mormon, says, "But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love." There was a time in my life where I was praying daily for charity, and it definitely made a difference! Over time, I guess I just got out of the habit. But my goal this week is to get back into the habit of praying for charity with "all the energy of [my] heart." 2. I watched the finale of the last season of The Great British Baking Show that's available on Netflix. Already going through withdrawals. 3. Once B was home from work, we watched The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and took a wonderful Sunday afternoon nap. For some reason, those seem to be the best kind of nap. 4. Later on we made crepes (which were soooo delicious). We ran out of Nutella quickly so for the rest we just put tons of butter and sugar on top which became a new favorite. 5. While I am typing this, B is laying on our fur rug, watching Prince Caspian, and in T minus ten seconds I am going to go snuggle up with him. Happy Sunday, R What do you think of when you hear the word, "Idaho"?
Potatoes. A month ago, we even had our Uber driver from Ghana tell us that when he thinks of Idaho, all he thinks of is potatoes. Then he asked us if we eat potatoes all the time. Our answer was no. Until recently, when B brought home a giant box of 80 potatoes. And now, yes. All we eat is potatoes. Fried potatoes, mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, hash browns, and one time we even put potatoes on a pizza! (It was actually good.) I'm kidding, really; they're not all we eat. We still have our normal stuff, but now it's with a hefty side of potatoes. :) R Today we had an impromptu picnic where we pretended we were Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood from The Great British Baking Show, critiquing the lemon bundt cake we were having. B did a perfect impression of Paul, saying, "It's a bit underdone" and I said it was "simply scrummy" in my best Mary voice.
Then I made a joke that no matter how bad your imitation of a British accent is, chances are there's someone that actually talks like that. (If you've watched the show, you'll know what I'm talking about - it seems like each person has a different accent!) Then we took a long walk around Old-Town Idaho Falls. We went into the historical Colonial Theater, and walked into a bunch of shops. It was a lot of fun. Until tomorrow, R My parents left yesterday. I was sad. I probably won't get to see them again until the end of Summer. We started off our last day together with a walk along the river. We walked all the way down to the bridge on Broadway to get a good view of the temple. When we got back, I fixed B some breakfast and sent him off to work, then made breakfast for my parents and myself. We had fried potatoes with green onion, cilantro, cayenne, and pepper jack cheese on a bed of spinach. It was goooood. In fact, I'm craving some right now. Then we went down the street to the Melaleuca store. It was seriously a dream-come-true for my mom. I'm talking Disneyland for her. She has been a Melaleuca customer for as long as I can remember (she never really tried to sell it, she just liked the products for her own use) and seeing all the products on display and in person was really fun for her. It was actually really fun for me too. :) When we got back to our house, my dad went and took a nap and my mom and I watched Cinderella (the 2015 one). We both love that movie, so it was really nice to watch it together. When it came time for them to leave, we hugged and said goodbye. Then I walked them out to their car and we took a last-minute picture together. They got in the car, and waved goodbye as they drove off. I stood in the street, and watched them drive away until their car was out of view. The neighbor lady thought I was crazy. Love you guys! Thanks for visiting. R The last few days have been so busy that by the end of the day, I just went to sleep instead of writing a post. So here's a catch up (not ketchup, I don't like ketchup).
Monday: I did all the laundry, folded all the clothes, worked on a new logo for the blog, and mended B's favorite pants, ALL while watching The Great British Baking Show (and avoiding cleaning the kitchen). What is it about that show that is so addictive? Some of the stuff that they make seems like it wouldn't really be that good. Like meat pies. But B served his mission in London and can testify that meat pies are good. Don't knock it till you try it I guess. Then in the afternoon, I got a call from my mom saying that she and my dad were wanting to visit us the very next day. I wasn't expecting them until Thursday or Friday, so I had put off all the cleaning. So the rest of the day was spent cleaning up the spare room (we call it "Spare Oom", like in Narnia), cleaning the kitchen, etc. By the time B got home from work (around 8:30), I was so exhausted from all the aforementioned cleaning (actually probably from pouring my heart and soul into watching the Great British Baking Show - it can get so intense, even if they're in the most peaceful looking place on Earth!) SO we went to Chick-fil-A so I didn't have to cook. We went through the drive-through because I wasn't wearing shoes, and we got two chicken sandwiches, some chicken strips, and every single sauce they have. We wanted to try them all to see which was the best. Here is the verdict:
To be honest, we didn't even open the bbq sauce or the ranch because... BOOOORING. We sat in the car and ate our food while we talked about the possibility of a trip to London sometime in the future. It was fun. Tuesday: My parents got here! Yay!!! Even though I was literally still cleaning the moment they arrived, I would much rather have them over sooner than later. I love having them here. I have found that I love having company, and my parents are especially fun because they are so nice and helpful and don't care if something isn't perfect (like when I made my homemade pizza for dinner and it turned out floppy). When they got here, I made them lunch (the best salad ever) and then my mom cleaned the entire kitchen (thank you, Mom!!!) while I did some homework. Then a little later the three of us (B was at work) went to see Beauty and the Beast. My mom loved it like I hoped she would, and during the movie we kept looking at each other in pure delight at how great it was (those new songs!!). My dad was a great sport and liked it as well. I loved the movie all over again, and I have to say that I have totally come around to Emma Watson. There's just something there that wasn't there before. ;) It was fun to show my parents around town. On the way to the movie I got to show them the high school I work at, and we drove through the main part of town and along the river on the way back home. When we got back, I made some pizza dough, then did some homework, then went to pick up B from work. Then we made the pizzas together (one just pepperoni, one pepperoni + jalapeno), and I made the mistake of putting them both in the oven at the same time! AHHH! So of course they didn't turn out, but my parents were so nice about it anyway. They ate it and said it was good. Oh and B ate like 6 pieces so I think he liked it anyway too. Then for dessert I used some leftover pizza dough to make some Nutella Rolls. I rolled out the dough super thin, spread a generous amount of Nutella on it, sprinkled brown sugar on top, then rolled it up and cut it into pieces like you do for cinnamon rolls. Then I baked it until they looked done, and we ate them with vanilla ice cream. YUM. Those did turn out. Then we turned on The Great British Baking Show and we all lived happily ever after. |
